Replacement Pair of Ball Joints for Lexus GS300 GS400 1998-2000.
OEM Lexus ball joints. The GS suffers from ball joints that are not nearly as beefy as they should have been. Many Lexus owners find this out the hard way. Club Lexus forums are full of testimonials where GS's have sheared off lower ball joints anywhere from 60,000 to 100,000 miles. I personally have have seen cars log over 175,000 miles without ball joint failure, but when checked, they were definitely "ready to go". If you hear a popping or creaking when you turn your wheels, especially when going from forward to reverse in a parking stall, ITS TIME TO GET THEM CHECKED! We no longer do service or repair, but offer advice and tech help.

Lexus has not adderessed this issue even though many complains have been made that the second generation 98-00 GS300/GS400 and 01-05 GS300/GS430 has ball joints that wear out faster than most other cars in the line. A recall was issued to earlier, first generation GS models for their ball joint failure, but as of now, simply having you ball joints checked and or replaced is the best way to assure this problem has been addressed. As you can see above, its more than a simple "fix it" when a ball joint fails. The ball join shears off above the lower control arm, sending your tire and wheel up into your fenderwell. It damages the fender, can damage the tire and rim and usually damages the brake flex line and the antilock brake sensor wire. More so than the damage, you can lose control of your vehicle and you, your passengers or other motorists can be injured in a crash or collision. Many of our club members and customers have been lucky and only had the ball joints fail at low speeds and no one was seriously injured. Costs to get this repaired can range from $800 to over $3200. We can direct you to more information and photos on this common problem in Lexus GS forums on ClubLexus.com and LexusOwnersClub.com. This is a serious safety issue and should be addressed as soon as possible.
The Lexus dealers get over $120 each for the lower ball joints.
We no longer offer service or parts, but will be willing to help you with questions and we can recommend a good shop to have the work done if you want to save some money over taking your car to the dealer.
